How does Goodwill support a sustainable future?

April 22nd is Earth Day, and it’s a good time to talk about sustainability, how it relates to us, and how your support of our mission helps people and the planet! Here are some quick facts about the clothing and textile industry:

• Clothing production has doubled since 2000 and people get rid of clothes faster as well.

• 85% of clothing ends up in landfills

• It takes 700 gallons of water to produce one cotton T-shirt

How does Goodwill help curb these impacts on our environment? With your donations and purchases!

• Donating and shopping second hand IS recycling! When you donate, items get a new life. Reuse helps impact the need for new textiles, wares, and other materials that have negative impacts on the environment.

• Shopping second hand and donating used items keeps them out of landfills. One of our guiding principles here at Alabama Goodwill is to ensure something good happens to every donation we receive!

• In the process of helping our planet, you’re also helping people in need! At Goodwill we focus on achieving a strong triple bottom line of People, Planet, and Performance. We work with all of our team members, and all people we serve, to help them learn and grow with the revenue your donations and purchases generate!
