Alabama Goodwill Safely Reopens All Locations & Services!

Getting Alabama Back to Work with Additional Safety Measures

BIRMINGHAM, ALABAMA May 4, 2020 – Alabama Goodwill is safely reopening all nine retail thrift stores, five attended donation centers and resuming career services to start rebuilding our community and “Get Alabama Back to Work!”

Alabama Goodwill provides vital community services through its career center and career services. “Now more than ever, our career services will play a critical role in assisting the most vulnerable segments of our community who have been laid off or displaced from employment”, stated Alabama Goodwill President and CEO David Wells. “Providing these community services requires funding, and our Goodwill retail thrift stores provide a direct financial source to support FREE career services.”

Locations and services will reopen on Wednesday, May 6th at normal business hours but with additional safety measures. Team Members will control the number of shoppers entering stores based on the governor’s physical-distance guidelines, wear masks and other personal protective equipment, sanitize shopping carts, and clean other high-touch surfaces throughout the day. There will also be directional signs to guide shoppers through the store and at the cash registers to encourage social distancing. Donors, shoppers and job seekers are encouraged to visit to find the nearest location, hours of operation, career services and available jobs.

April 10, 2020

All Alabama Goodwill stores and donation centers are TEMPORARILY CLOSED until further notice. Please PAUSE your donations during this time. If you leave them while we are closed, they may get damaged and not put to GOOD use. We will really need them to re-open when this crisis is over so we can continue to Change Lives Through the POWER of Work! Thank you for your understanding during this difficult time!

Along with our Birmingham Store, we have temporarily closed the Gadsden and Ashville Retail Stores. We are accepting donations at these locations, but if possible, please hold onto your donations until we re-open, and we will be delighted to accept them at that time. We appreciate your understanding during this challenging time and look forward to your much-needed support so we can continue to provide mission in our communities!

March 19, 2020

Due to recent events concerning the Coronavirus (COVID-19) and the Mayor designating the city as a state of emergency, the Alabama Goodwill leadership team has made the hard, yet necessary decision in order to protect our team and the community, and will temporarily close the Birmingham store. All other Alabama Goodwill locations in our territory will operate with adjusted hours and that list can be found at

We will continue to accept donations in the Birmingham area at our attended donation centers which are listed below:
• Oporto ADC – 5113 Oporto Madrid Blvd, Irondale, AL 35210
• Willow Oak ADC – 1808 Gadsden Hwy, Birmingham, AL 35235
• Tattersall ADC – 6215 Tattersall Blvd, Hoover, AL 35242
• Pelham Parkway ADC – 3310 Pelham Parkway, Pelham, AL 35124
• Southgate ADC – 1920 Hwy 31 S, Pelham, AL 35124

These are definitely unprecedented times that we are experiencing, but we want to stress that Alabama Goodwill is doing what is necessary to protect our futures, families and neighbors.

We ask that you please continue to practice social distancing, only leave home when necessary, wash your hands, cough in your elbow and don’t touch your face.

Thank you for your patience and understanding during this difficult time and we will update you when this “Health Holiday” is lifted.

Adjusted Hours

March 16, 2020

Due to the recent message from Mayor Randall Woodfin about his decision to proclaim a State of Emergency for Birmingham amid the coronavirus pandemic, we have decided to adjust our business hours for the Birmingham Store location only. We want to keep our team members, partners, clients and customers safe and honor the mayor’s recommendation to have no more than the 25 people in a group setting for the City of Birmingham. Until further communication, we welcome you to bring your donations and shop at our retail store, located at 2350 Green Springs Hwy, during the hours of 8am and 4pm Mondays thru Saturdays and 11am to 4pm on Sundays. Thank you for your understanding!

A Note About the Coronavirus (COVID-19) to Our Shoppers, Donors, Partners and Those We Serve

March 16, 2020

As our communities work together to keep you and your family safe, we would like to reassure you that your health and well-being are top priorities for us as well. As a mission-based nonprofit organization, Alabama Goodwill cares deeply for the program participants we serve and the many donors, shoppers, volunteers and team members that allow us to help others in our communities every day.

We are taking additional measures to clean and sanitize stores and program offices. Because Alabama Goodwill is a community-based nonprofit, we are able to assess and respond to unique community needs as they evolve. At this point, we have had no reported contact with COVID-19, and we are continuing our operations. We may have adjustments to our operations as our team members work with school closings, and we will keep you informed of these as they occur. We may implement additional preventative measures to ensure your well-being and that of our team members, including staffing or service changes. We will communicate any necessary changes to our operations to the public as well as any helpful resources that may be available to you.

To those we serve through our mission and programs, we are very mindful of your health and well-being as well. We continue to work hard to find solutions to providing the services you need while maintaining a healthy, safe environment. We will continue to communicate any necessary service and program changes as they occur.

We also continue to keep a close watch on the evolving situation and the guidance provided by the World Health Organization, U.S. Centers for Disease Control, and state, provincial and local governments. In addition to following government and local health department guidance, we are being recommended procedures to support our team members and the public.

As a partner to communities for more than 115 years, we remain committed to continuing our mission of helping people facing challenges build skills, find jobs and grow their careers. This is true now during these difficult times as well as in the weeks, months and years ahead. Thank you in advance for your patience as we determine how best to continue serving our communities, our team members and you.
